Computational science and artificial intelligence (AI) tech firm Altair has announced its collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras to establish an e-mobility simulation lab on the institute's Department of Engineering Design.
The company will facilitate the provision of Altair's design and simulation platform 'HyperWorks', along with the necessary computational infrastructure to run Altair simulation codes at the lab meant to to accelerate research and innovation in electric vehicles technology.
The support to IIT Madras underscores its commitment to advancing research and development in the field of EVs, aligning with its commitment to sustainability and innovation, Altair claims. According to news report, the company has provided $1 million financial support to the institute.

And this will also extend to the e-mobility lab at IIT-M."
The e-mobility lab is said to host advanced modelling and simulation tools from Altair for academic learning and R&D, thereby enhancing learning and skilling outcomes. The lab will also complement academic projects and research on EV systems done at the IIT-M campus.
"Given the Government's focus on eMobility and rapid expansion of the market that is expected, there is a need for IIT Madras to play its role in the academic space", commented Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras.
"E-mobility-related initiatives in academic programs, research and policy are all managed and offered with multiple Departments contributing with the Department of Engineering Design acting as the nodal department", he added.
He further claimed that IIT-M will see a host of initiatives, facilities and programs in the e-mobility space to equip the industry and policy makers to address the needs of the market.
