India's all-electric ride hailing company BluSmart has signed a multi-year power purchase agreement with Tata Power to source green power, in the process becoming India's first mobility player to become a zero-emissions company.
Under the agreement, Tata Power Trading Co (TPTCL) a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, will source 30 MW capacity from its 200 MW solar PV power plant in Bikaner district, Rajasthan.
The partnership, "enabled by the recently enacted Green Energy Open Access Rules, allows BluSmart to completely eliminate Scope 2 emissions from its existing 1.4 million sq. ft. of EV charging infrastructure and future charging hubs," the companies said in a release.
BluSmart, which crossed $55 million in annual revenues, is building an integrated energy-infrastructure-mobility business. The company operates close to 6,000 EVs, which have completed over 12 million trips amounting to 400 million km, saving ~28,000 metric tons of CO2 in the process.
The company also owns and operates 4,000 EV chargers across 35 charging superhubs in Delhi-NCR and Bangalore.
Commenting on the partnership, Punit Goyal, co-founder, BluSmart, said: "We are paving the path to fully decarbonize mobility at scale and are excited to further cement our alliance with Tata Power as we power our EV charging infrastructure with 100 percent clean electricity. BluSmart has already covered 400 million electric km since launch till date, and we are excited that the journey to 1 billion electric km will now be powered by 100 percent renewable energy."
Tarun Katiyar, CEO, Tata Power Trading Co Ltd, commented: "We are committed to supporting multiple industries in achieving their renewable energy goals through our sustainable, innovative and affordable energy solutions."
