The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued a request for selection (RfS) for selection of green ammonia producers under the SIGHT programme of the country's National Green Hydrogen Mission. The launch is a crucial step in creating demand for green hydrogen and its derivatives in the country.
The RfS has initiated cost-based competitive bidding for production and supply of 539,000 tonnes per annum of green ammonia, which will be supplied to fertilizer companies. The process will be carried out through e-bidding followed by e-reverse auction process.

The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has already allocated 412,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen production capacity and 1.5 GW per annum of electrolyzer manufacturing capacity under the SIGHT scheme. SECI has been appointed as the implementing agency.
India launched its National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023 with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore up to 2030. Its aim is to help the country become self-reliant through clean energy while decarbonizing the economy, reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports, and supporting the industry to gain technological and market leadership in the green hydrogen space.
