Lamborghini buyers can no longer buyer the conventional, internal combustion models, because those are completely sold out, the company's CEO told the German newspaper Die Welt.
"Our Huracan (sports car) and Urus (SUV) models are sold out until the end of production," Stephan Winkelmann told the paper in an interview. These will be replaced by plug-in hybrids or partially-electrically-powered versions, in 2024 and 2025, as part of the company's plan to electrify its entire product range.
The hybridization contributes directly to allowing Lamborghini to meet its climate goals. "With the hybridization of all our vehicles, we will reduce CO2 emissions by 50 percent compared to today," Winkelmann said.
Lamborghini launched its first hybrid, the Revuelto, in March this year. The mid-engine model is a replacement for the company's Aventador model, and deliveries are expected to commence from the last quarter of 2023.
The company expects to bring its first fully-electric offering to the market in 2028. Lamborghini says it would be a vehicle that would prove suitable for everyday use. It is expected to be similar to the Urus SUV, only a little flatter.
