Pinnacle’s EV arm EKA Mobility unveils its first product ‘E9’ electric bus

Pune-based EKA Mobility, a subsidiary of Pinnacle Industries limited, has launched its newest 'EKA E9' 9-metre pure-electric bus for the domestic market. The bus was unveiled at the Pune Alternate Fuel Conclave (AFC) held last weekend.

EKA is perhaps the only CV maker approved under the Champion OEM Scheme and EV component manufacturing scheme of the Union Government's Auto PLI scheme. The company will design and manufacture a complete range of EVs, fuel-cell and alternative fuel vehicles, along with the supply of EV related modules, components, and energy storage systems in the coming years, according to news reports.

Commenting on the launch, Sudhir Mehta, Chairman, EKA and Pinnacle Industries Limited, said, "Electrification of commercial vehicles, public transport, especially the bus sector, is key to India's decarbonization strategy. Today, we are excited to launch our first electric bus EKA E9, to empower cities to achieve their zero-emissions targets".

"Our buses are designed and optimized to provide the best ride experience, cleaner environment, and best returns to the customers. With the new EKA E9, we offer a global platform for clean, efficient, and profitable public transport to meet the rising demand on important markets that are ready for the shift to electromobility", he added.

The EKA E9 electric bus comes loaded with a host of passenger comfort and safety features including electronically-controlled air suspension, ergonomically designed cabin and driver cockpit, disc brakes in all four wheels with EBS, Automatic Driver assistance system (ADAS), short-circuit protection, and so on.

The e-bus is claimed to make a maximum power and torque 200 kW and 2500 Nm respectively. It follows CCS2 charging protocol with fast charging capabilities. Monocoque stainless steel chassis and composite body structure also make this battery-bus unique and efficient in terms of construction.

It is to be noted that Pinnacle industries has recently announced its foray into the EV component manufacturing. The company will be manufacturing sheet metal and body parts, along with battery packs for E2Ws and E3Ws.
