Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) has announced that it became the first utility in Delhi to meet 100 percent renewable purchase obligation (RPO) compliance.
The company said it obtained more than 2,000 million units (MUs) of green power from renewable sources to fulfill RPO for the financial year 2020-21 (FY21) through physical power without purchasing renewable energy certificates.
"As a progressive step towards providing an opportunity to non-open access consumers to use renewable energy, we have already approached the regulator for devising a mechanism by way of green tariff so that renewable sources are utilized for sourcing power," said Ganesh Srinivasan, chief executive officer, Tata Power-DDL.
As per the company press release, this is about 25 percent of the total units sold to consumers by Tata Power-DDL in its operational area.
