TESVOLT AG that specializes in commercial battery storage systems has recently joined hands with operational environmental protection specialist DENIOS to develop unique solutions that combine battery storage systems with highest-standards of fire protection.
The company presented its latest 'Power Safe' products at this year's smarter E Europe trade fair that was held in Munich about two weeks ago. TESVOLT claims that the product line meets the most stringent safety requirements in commercial and industrial settings, for instance, in operations located in water conservation areas or regions that are at a risk of forest fires, or as required by some insurers.
The energy storage systems are enclosed in cases offering F90 fire resistance rating, and are available in various sizes, from small-scale 80 kWh solutions to large BESS of MWh-scale, the company adds.
"TESVOLT storage systems already fulfil particularly stringent safety requirements. We have a multi-level safety concept and our storage systems are certified by the testing institute TÜV Rheinland. I am particularly pleased that we can now also offer our commercial customers a technical solution for highly sensitive environments. With this we have cleared yet another hurdle on the path to universal availability of clean energy," said Simon Schandert, CTO and Co-Founder of TESVOLT, at the launch of the products.

The 'Power Safe' storage systems come in a spatial system design with dual-frame construction classified as REI 90 or REI 120 fire protection. It can withstand fire, either internal or external, for at least 90 minutes, fulfilling the standards for safety certification demanded by approval authorities and greatly reducing complex approval processes, according to the manufacturer.
This safety certification also allows the system to be installed without a minimum clearance between it and adjacent buildings. Further, round-the-clock remote monitoring will alert the operator immediately in the event of a problem with the system. An aerosol-based extinguishing system is also available for the spatial system.
Markus Boberg, Business Development Manager at DENIOS, said, "For years now we have been engaged with the safe storage and handling of hazardous materials. TESVOLT not only has high-performance, durable storage systems, it also has some of the safest battery storage technologies on the market".
He added, "However, in some cases, safety requirements are particularly strict, for example in countries with special environmental regulations or specific requirements from insurers. Now we have joined together to develop a technical solution that can meet the strictest safety requirements, by enclosing the battery storage system within an additional fire safety case."
TESVOLT's storage systems feature prismatic battery cells, which are considered to be the safest lithium-ion cells. At the system level, TESVOLT's battery management system also monitors the voltage of each individual cell. This means the whole system is subject to constant plausibility monitoring. If the normalized range is exceeded, the system automatically switches to a safe state, the company notes.
