Trina Storage delivers 50 MW/56.2 MWh grid-scale BESS in the UK

Trina Storage has announced that it has completed the delivery of its first fully integrated battery storage system in 50 MW/56.2 MWh grid-scale in Burwell, UK, for SMS plc. Now operational, the storage system will support the UK grid to become more flexible and resilient, further preparing it to achieve zero carbon emissions.

The 50 MW BESS project is owned and developed by the UK's leading smart energy infrastructure provider SMS plc, developed by Ethical Power, the system having been supplied, commissioned, and tested by Trina Storage. This system provides balancing services to the UK national grid accompanying its business operations.

The complete system solution, comprised of Li-Ion battery racks, PCS, and transformer units, is designed to maximize system performance as well as safely extend battery life at the heart of the engineering process. It is equipped with modular, flexible, and scalable power plant controllers (PPC) and SCADA according to the latest IT standards to control, monitor as well as optimize system performance. A flexible capacity warranty covering complete system delivery (including commissioning and standard product warranty) as well as preventative maintenance is also provided.

By forming an end-to-end partnership with SMS plc and third parties, Trina Storage has reduced project complexity and lead times with its supply chain expertise. Dedicated purchasing teams have also enabled SMS plc to achieve system-level cost optimization and reduce supply risks by leveraging the purchasing power of the Trina Storage group.

Quality and safety conformances were also ensured with defined safety checkpoints and in compliance with hardware certifications until project delivery. Site acceptance tests further ensure the system is fully operational and compliant with UK G99 network regulations.

"The commissioning of the Burwell plant marks our first successful delivery of systems in the UK. It is a major milestone for us. It is a testament to our excellent delivery capabilities. The UK is on track to meet its carbon target zero and we are happy to lead this energy transition". said Terry Chen, director of the overseas energy storage business

"Together with our customers and partners, we are committed to creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world while optimizing financial returns."
