Iveco Group electric, hydrogen solutions for commercial vehicles at IAA 2024

Italian automotive giant Iveco Group is presenting its extensive, multi-energy offerings through its brands IVECO and FPT Industrial at the on-going IAA Transportation 2024 expo in Hannover, Germany, targeting the future of commercial vehicles.

The group has made the global premiere of two new battery electric vehicles (BEV) - the 'S-eWay' heavy-duty e-truck in its rigid configuration and the light chassis cab 'eMoovy'.

Moreover, a prototype of the Iveco S-Way equipped with a hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and a hybrid heavy-duty truck concept featuring an electric axle and H2 engine range-extender are also on display.

FPT Industrial, on the other hand, has dedicated the exhibit space at IAA this time for a multi-fuel, single base engine designed with a common core and optimised to run on multiple fuels including hydrogen.

A N67 Hythane prototype fuelled by a blend of hydrogen and methane is also on display, along with the brand's latest generation of electrified axles and battery systems for CVs.

"IAA Transportation is an important event for the global transport industry and an ideal forum for us to introduce our innovative line-ups of vehicles, engines and services", said Olof Persson, CEO, Iveco Group.

"Iveco Group can truly offer a full range of solutions powered by all propulsion options; we are absolutely ready for whatever direction our industry takes because we have all the technologies, from natural gas to hydrogen combustion engines and from battery electric to hydrogen fuel cell propulsions", he noted.

The CEO further affirms the group's commitment to leading the energy transition with "solid product strategy" in line with the group's long-term investment plan and technological roadmap.

Product wise, the Iveco S-eWay boasts a driving range of up to 400 km and offers rapid charging capabilities that can provide 200 km of additional autonomy in less than 45 minutes. It is equipped with an FPT Industrial electric axle and offers a total capacity of up to 490 kWh, making it optimal for urban and regional missions.

The eMoovy battery electric chassis cab, targeting the mid 2.5 to 3.5-ton segment, has a range of up to 320 km, with a 76 kWh battery and fast-charging of up to 100 km of in less than 10 minutes. The EV is manufactured by Hyundai and locally customized by IVECO in Europe as part of their partnership.
