With the objective to ensure sustained growth of EV adoption in India, more than 80 EV industry players have gathered in New Delhi today to propose a holistic reconsideration of demand and supply enablers impacting the EV industry post FAME II.
Attending the India Electric Mobility Council's (IEMC) meet on "What After FAME II? The Road Ahead" IEMC will facilitate dialogue between the EV industry players and policymakers to continue the FAME II scheme, and also garner recommendations from the industry for future schemes incentivizing EVs.
In addition to the reconsideration of FAME II policy (which expires on March 31, 2024), other areas of discussions at IEMC meet today will include: EV components manufacturing, EV charging and swapping systems, E-4W (personal and commercial), hybrid vehicles, heavy-duty EVs, farm vehicles and construction equipment, Component tax structure, GST consideration and safety guidelines for EVs and EV infrastructure in India.
The Indian government has set target to achieve 30% electrification of vehicle fleet by 2030 and has launched several demand-side and supply-side incentives and policies to support the growth of the EV industry, including the Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Electric (FAME) Vehicles Scheme (Phase I and Phase II), and Production Linked Incentive Schemes (PLI) to promote adoption of EVs.
However, the Indian EV industry being in its early stages of evolution calls for greater collaboration between manufacturers and policymakers to ensure stable transition to electric mobility in India.
Acknowledging this need, Dr. Rahul Walawalkar, President, of India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) & Chair, IEMC underscored the need for and importance of holistic consideration of all demand and supply-related enablers for Indian EV market growth. Learning from the experience of markets already leading in e-mobility adoption, he added, similar holistic strategies have been adopted to decarbonize the transport sector.
The ongoing IEMC meet has been organized under the aegis of India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) India's leading industry alliance focused on promotion of advanced energy storage, electric mobility, and green hydrogen in India. Along with IESA, the event is organized in association with Society for Smart Electric Mobility (SSEM), Electric Mobility Financers Association of India (EMFAI), OMI Foundation, Alliance for Energy Efficiency Economy (AEEE), International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), International Copper Association of India (ICAI), The Climate Group, NRDC.
