Prevalon Energy, Innergex achieve commercialization of battery facilities in Chile

Prevalon Energy and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. have announced the successful commercialization of two pioneering energy storage projects in Chile, namely the Salvador and San Andrés battery facilities, signifying a tangible step forward in advancing sustainable energy initiatives in the region. 

The 50 MW Salvador battery facility, located in Chile's Atacama Desert, was officially inaugurated following the completion of Innergex's solar PV plant. It is Innergex's first utility-scale battery storage site and among the first installed in Chile. 

The 5-hour battery storage facility represents a crucial advancement in energy storage technology, offering grid stability and reliability while harnessing renewable energy sources to meet the growing demand for clean power, according to the developers. 

In a similar way, the 35 MW/ 175 MWh San Andrés energy storage facility is Innergex's second-largest energy storage facility in the country, contributing to the optimization of renewable energy integration and grid management, bolstering the resilience of Chile's energy infrastructure. 

The 5-hour battery storage facility is expected to generate annual revenues of approximately US$6.0 million in its first full year of operation, according to the partners. It is located on the site of Innergex's existing 50.6 MW San Andrés solar park in the Atacama Desert, northern Chile.
