CATL, Quinbrook sign pact for deploying 10GWh+ of stationary energy storage

Battery giant, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd (CATL) has signed a Global Framework Agreement with renewable energy developer, Quinbrook to deploy more than 10 GWh of its advanced battery energy storage system (BESS) over the next five years.

As part of the agreement signed today (Oct. 8), CATL will design, optimize, and supply its advanced energy storage solutions to Quinbrook and its many portfolio companies for their large-scale renewable energy projects operating in the US, the UK, and Australia.

"We are excited to strengthen our partnership with Quinbrook, which is experienced in leading investments and initiatives that support a stable transition to a decarbonized power system," said Tan Libin, vice president of CATL.

"Together with Quinbrook, we look forward to implementing more large-scale battery energy storage projects globally with our innovative solutions, so as to help address climate change and move towards a clean and sustainable future."

CATL will initially supply its outdoor container BESS, EnerC Plus, which will be fully integrated into Quinbrook's project specification. The two companies are assessing the first 1GWh+ of the EnerC Plus project in Australia and the UK. This project will demonstrate the capability of the CATL storage solution that will support a host of services to enhance the local grid stability and the build-out of renewable energy.

Quinbrook's renewables and storage development portfolio in the US, the UK, and Australia is presently upwards of 50GWs. This includes the recently concluded partnership with Grok Ventures for the 20GW Sun Cable Project –the world's largest announced renewable energy and storage project currently under development in the Northern Territory of Australia.

Quinbrook and CATL will further collaborate and evaluate the viability of CATL's new 8-hr charge and 16-hr discharge energy storage solution for use on the Sun Cable Project.
