RelyEZ's 'GridUltra' 5 MWh utility-scale BESS ready for market adoption

Chinese battery energy storage developer RelyEZ has announced has launched its latest 'GridUltra 5016' - a two-hour 5 MWh battery system - for utility-scale and commercial and industrial (C&I) applications.

The containerized battery system consists of 12 RelyEZ battery racks connected in parallel, with each rack made of 52 battery packs connected in series. The company is using 52 lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells rated for 314 Ah and 3.2 V.

The battery cells used in the 'GridUltra' BESS are rated for a long lifecycle of over 8,000 cycles and up to 20 years of usage. The manufacturer claims that the round-trip efficiency of the system at begin of life (BOL) is 88 percent.

The BESS is also supported by a battery management system (BMS), liquid-cooling system, and systems in place for active fire suppression.

Naomi Zhang, CEO of RelyEZ, has commented on the latest product, "This modular, non-walk-in container is designed for rapid deployment, minimizing both installation and maintenance costs", as reported by ESS News

"The battery cells provide high energy density, wide operating temperature range, long lifespan, lightweight construction, and enhanced safety", he reportedly added.

It is to be noted that the 'GridUltra' systems are already deployed in few large-scale energy storage projects in China, the latest one being the 300 MW/ 600 MWh BESS demonstration project located in Yunnan Province.

"This project also stands out as the first of its kind to be integrated with a 500KVA transmission substation, setting a new industry standard," claimed Zhang.
