NTPC's renewable energy arm, NGEL, on Sunday (March 10) signed an agreement with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) for developing renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the state of Rajasthan.
In a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between NGEL and RVUNL, both parties agreed to develop renewable energy projects up to 25GW capacity and green hydrogen derivatives up to 1 million ton capacity.
The MoU was signed by Rajiv Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, NGEL and Devender Shringi, Chairman and Managing Director, RVUNL, in the presence of Bhajan Lal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, R K Singh, Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy, Govt of India, Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Coal & Mines, Govt of India (both connected virtually) among other dignitaries.
A separate MoU was signed on the same day between NTPC and RVUNL to explore opportunities for adding supercritical units to the existing Chhabra Thermal Power Plant. Additionally, to implement measures to enhance efficiency and reduce the power generation cost of the plant's existing units.
The MoU also included the undertaking of 15-year to 20-year annuity-based Renovation and Modernization (R&M) of old thermal units of RVUNL, by NTPC or its affiliates. The MoU was signed by the Executive Director, BD, IBD & Consultancy, NTPC, R Sarangapani, and Chairman and Managing Director, RVUNL, Devender Shringi.
NTPC is India's largest integrated power utility. By 2032, NTPC is looking to expand its non-fossil-based capacity to 45-50 percent of the company's portfolio to include 60GW RE capacity with a total portfolio of 130 GW.
