Air Liquide Japan and Itochu Corporation have announced that they have partnered to fast-track the development of hydrogen retail infrastructure in Japan, for both passenger and commercial vehicles.

The two companies announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project that will offer competitive hydrogen supply, leveraging Air Liquide’s hydrogen expertise and Itochu’s large footprint across several energy sectors.

In a declaration, the companies said they will explore more opportunities globally to expand the hydrogen supply chain in support of the Japan Government hydrogen roadmap.

Remarking on the alliance, François Abrial, Member of the Air Liquide Group’s Executive Committee supervising the Asia Pacific, said, “The fight against climate change is at the heart of Air Liquide’s strategy. Hydrogen is projected to play a key role in supporting energy transition and the emergence of a carbon-neutral society.”

“With this collaboration, we seek to jointly accelerate the development of hydrogen mobility markets in Japan, leveraging our complementary technology portfolios and know-how across the entire hydrogen value chain.”
