Microvast Holdings, Inc. has announced the introduction of two new lithium-ion battery cells to its product portfolio, as well as improved ones Gen 4 battery packs known.

The new 48Ah and 53.5Ah NMC Li-ion battery cells have been specially developed to meet the diverse technical requirements for powering commercial and special vehicles, where optimal battery design is required due to inherent trade-offs between performance and energy supply is a challenge. Both new pouch cells are available in the same dimensions and can be integrated into Microvast's new Gen 4 battery packs. This flexibility gives customers the ability to choose between standardized cells designed for either high power or high energy requirements without changing the powertrain design, providing customers with a one-stop solution for a variety of applications.

"The new cells enable our customers to easily optimize vehicle design in terms of energy density and lifetime, achieve improved overall performance and reduce total cost of ownership while maintaining fast charging capability. We expect these next-generation battery cells to become key revenue drivers for our future business," said Mr. Yang Wu, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Microvast.

The 48Ah, 53.5Ah cells, and Gen 4 battery packs are now available for sample orders. Microvast expects to start mass production in 2023.

The MpCO-48Ah cell offers 10 percent higher energy density (205Wh/kg) compared to its predecessor, along with 3C fast charge capability and cycle life of more than 7,000 cycles. The HpCO 53.5Ah cell has an excellent energy density of 235 Wh/kg and a lifespan of over 5,000 cycles, while still offering 1C fast charging.

The new 4th generation battery packs have similar dimensions to the 3rd generation predecessors but deliver up to 20 percent more energy and performance. The new packs also feature enhanced security features at the module and pack level, resulting in improved thermal management. The 4th generation battery packs are certified to meet national battery standards.
