Parameswaran Iyer, a 1981-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre has been appointed as the new CEO of NITI Aayog on Monday.

Mr. Iyer replaces Amitabh Kant, who completed his extended term of about six years as the CEO of NITI Aayog on June 30.

"NITI Aayog welcomes Shri Parameswaran Iyer as NITI Aayog's CEO," NITI Aayog said in an official release.

Mr. Iyer has over 25 years of experience in the water and sanitation sector and is widely recognized for his contribution to the Swachh Bharat Mission which aims to eradicate open defecation in India by constructing over 90 million toilets in rural India.

He has worked in both, the public and the private sector. Before joining NITI Aayog, he served as the Secretary in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India during 2016–20.
