Indian EV start-up Pravaig Dynamics has launched its first-ever, production-ready premium electric car 'Defy' in the domestic market for a price tag of ₹ 39.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for interested buyers has already commenced, with customer deliveries likely to start as early as April 2023.

The futuristic electric SUV is expected to take on the likes of Jaguar iPace, Audi e-tron and the Mercedes-Benz EQC in the Indian premium electric SUV/ crossover segment. The Bengaluru-based company aims to roll out 10 lakh units by 2028, catering to both the domestic and international markets.

Ram Divedi, Chief Strategy Officer, Pravaig said, "At the beginning we will try to address the domestic market and will look at exports in 2024. In the long run 70 per cent of the production would go into the overseas markets", in his interaction to PTI at the recently held launch event.

The company has established a manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, in which production of the Defy electric SUV is expected to start and scale up gradually as the demand grows. Two more products are reportedly on the development.

Pravaig Defy is powered by a 90.9kWh, 5 module lithium-ion battery pack featuring over 5,000 hardcase shells. The company claims that the battery is good enough to offer a driving range of about 500 kms in the car, which can be charged using either a 7.2 kW home charger or a 150 kW DC fast charger. The company claims 250,000 km or 8 years of guaranteed battery performance.

Dual-electric motors of the Defy generate 407hp and 620Nm of max power and torque respectively. Some of the highlighting features of the electric SUV include 5G connectivity and regular OTA updates, 60-degree camera set-up, 77GHz solid state radar, six airbags, ABS with ESC, and interiors made of sustainable plastics and leather.

Pravaig says buyers can service the Defy SUV at 34,000 PIN codes across India, along with emergency road side assistance and one year complimentary service that can be extended to four years. The company also have plans to sell the car online initially.
