Tesla has installed its 10,000th supercharger for electric vehicle charging in China at Shanghai yesterday. With this, the US company has a cumulative count of more than 1,500 supercharging stations and more than 700 destination charging stations in the Chinese mainland, according to CNEVPOST.
China is one of the earliest markets for Tesla to establish supercharging stations for its EVs. In 2014, the first Tesla supercharger was installed in Jinqiao, Shanghai. By 2016, the company established 100 supercharging stations in Chinese mainland.
Today, Tesla's charging network covers almost all provincial-level administrative regions in the country, reaching more than 320 cities. The company claims that in first-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, Tesla EV owners can find a charging pile within 15 minutes on average.

"With the completion of the 10,000th charger of Tesla's Supercharger network in the Chinese mainland just around the corner, and with such a dense and diverse network layout, what's the difficulty of charging," the company wrote on Weibo social media platform, as reported by CNEVPOST.
It is said that China now has some 50 percent more superchargers than Europe, with US being the single largest market for Tesla superchargers. However, it is to be noted that at least three different types of charging connectors are found in these chargers, depending on the region.
As far as charging capabilities are concerned, the Tesla superchargers boast a peak power of 250 kW (V3) and 150 kW (V2), while there were plans since 2021 to introduce 300 kW and higher chargers as well.
