Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage Technology Co. Ltd. has announced that a 200MW/ 400MWh standalone energy storage station in Ningxia, using the company's advanced LFP energy storage batteries, has gone live recently.
Claimed as the largest of its kind BESS project in China as of now, the project is said to be a major milestone in the building of renewable energy power system in Ningxia. The system integrator for this project is ROBESTEC.
Appling Hithium's batteries, the energy storage systems sore the energy generated by renewable sources like solar and wind. It modulates frequency and peak according to power grid loads. When the grid experiences high demand, the stored energy can be directed towards homes and businesses.
With a storage capacity of 400MWh, the BESS can provide electricity for 300 households for one year consumption. The energy storage systems can significantly reduce coal consumption, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 501,000 tons per year, according to Hithium.
The project will help ensure the stability of the electricity network, enabling greater volumes of renewable energy projects to be connected to the grid, as China continues to decarbonize, the company added.
Founded in 2019, Hithium is planning to invest $ 4.71 billion towards the expansion of its manufacturing capacity to 135 GWh by the end of 2025.
The company has also signed an agreement with Australian solar developer Sun Valley HK Group to work together on eight solar farms in the country, to deploy Hithium LFP batteries at the sites.
