The state government of Odisha has green-lighted three hydrogen projects to promote the green hydrogen and green ammonia sector in the state, as part of an industrial push that saw approvals granted to 12 industrial projects in all. The projects have a cumulative investment of ₹85,000 crore, and the hydrogen projects account for slightly more than half that amount.
The projects were cleared by the state's High Level Clearance Authority, headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
ReNew E-Fuels Pvt Ltd received clearance to establish two green hydrogen and green methanol projects in the eastern state at a total investment of ₹19,000 crore.
The company plans to set up a 100,000 tonnes per annum green hydrogen and 500,000 tonnes per annum green methanol manufacturing unit in Malkangiri district at a cost of around ₹10,000 crore. Parallelly, it plans to establish a 60,000 tonnes per annum green hydrogen and 300,000 tonnes per annum green methanol facility in Rayagada district at an investment of ₹ 9,000 crore.
Welspun New Energy Ltd received approval to set up a 700,000 metric tonnes per annum green ammonia unit in Kendrapada district. The project entails an investment of just under ₹14,000 crore, officials said.
In the third instance, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Ltd received the nod to establish a 720,000 metric tonnes per annum green ammonia manufacturing unit in Gopalpur in the state's Ganjam district. The company will investment of ₹13,000 crore in the project.
