Hero Future Energies (HFE) has announced that it has emerged as a successful bidder in Kerala State Electricity Board's (KSEB) tender for the construction of a 10 MW or 20 MWh grid-connected energy storage plant.

The home-grown power generation firm, part of the Hero Group, will have 15 months from the date of signing of the agreement to commission the project.

HFE claims that this will be its maiden utility scale battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The experience gained in the KSEB's project will enable the company to execute similar projects with more states that are likely to issue ESS tenders in period ahead, it adds.

"We believe that storage will be integral to the next phase of growth of renewables in India and as such will continue to be a key thrust area for HFE", said HFE's official statement on the recent development.

Established in 2012, HFE is one of India's leading independent power producer with operating plants in wind, grid-connected solar and rooftop solar.

With a roadmap to build a robust portfolio of5GW by 2024, the company is now actively exploring new technologies and market opportunities including grid-scale energy storage.
