Lamborghini anounces next hybrid as company prepares for shift to all-electric vehicle line
Lamborghini's next supercar is going to be a hybrid. The Italian company has retired its 5.2-liter V10 petrol engine in favor of a plug-in hybrid vehicle that will succeed its Huracán model.
The new model, named Temerario, was unveiled in California. It will feature a smaller capacity 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine accompanied by three electric motors for a total output of 907 bhp.
The new Lamborghini, due in 2025, will be true to the company's philosophy will remain a speed demon. Lamborghini said the Temerario "sets a new benchmark for the super sports car segment with a total power output of 920 CV, reaching a top speed of more than 210 miles per hour (over 340 kmph) and accelerating from 0-62 mph (0-100 kmph) in 2.7 seconds".
Lamborghini noted that the Temerario is the company's "second HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle) and [the] third step in the electrification strategy for the company, completing the hybridization of the entire Lamborghini lineup following the Revuelto and the Urus SE".
Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, said in a release: "The Temerario completes the next chapter in our Direzione Cor Tauri plan by hybridizing the full product line, while we continue the development of our full electric model debuting at the end of the decade."
Lamborghini had announced plans to electrify the entire range by end of 2024, and Winkelmann last year said hybridization would directly contribute to Lamborghini's climate goals, by slashing the company's CO2 emissions by 50 percent.
