L&T bags significant order for a solar PV plant combined with 254 MWh battery storage
The Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Monday (June 24) announced that it has won a significant domestic order to build a grid-connected 185MW solar PV plant with a 254 MWh battery energy storage system.
The solar PV plant located in Kajra, Lakshisarai district in Bihar will serve as a key project to harness renewable energy to meet the growing energy demand in the state. The order value of the project is between INR 1000 crore and INR 2500 crore.
"This is a welcome addition to our Renewable EPC portfolio of 18 GWp (Gigawatt Peak) cumulative capacity, comprising solar and wind generation projects already commissioned and in the making," said A Ravindran, Sr. Vice President & Head of Renewable Strategic Business Group, PT&D. "On the battery energy storage system front, we handle more than 1.5 GWh of storage capacity. This rich experience has made us the EPC partner of choice for developers globally."
The new BESS will store solar energy during the period of low demand and discharge it when the demand peaks. In addition, the BESS will also help to smoothen the fluctuations in generation, frequency regulation, and help with voltage support. L&T notes, the system comes with black start capability to the grid, facilitating quick re-energization after an outage.
