Improved Morrow LFP batteries report a 30 percent increased cycle life

Europe-based battery technology and manufacturing company, Morrow Batteries ASA (Morrow) has reported a 30 percent increased cycle life on its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries.

Since November last year, Morrow has shipped samples to several potential customers for testing and validation of its LPB batteries. Further, Morrow has improved the cell chemistry composition, battery cell design structure, and production process to improve its product performance.

"Morrow's engineering and research team have successfully increased the cycle life of the company's first product by 30 percent. Simultaneously, the energy density has increased by 10%," the company said in a release.

"We can now deliver a commercially viable, thoroughly tested, competitive LFP product," the company added.

Morrow is expected to begin production from its Giga Factory in Arendal, Norway in the second half of 2024 and start mass production in the fourth quarter.

In its initial stages, Morrow will produce LFP batteries based on a known and tested production process, serving the battery energy storage systems (BESS) market and heavy-duty electric commercial vehicles, such as construction machinery -- where the demand forecast exceeds current supply projections by a substantial margin.

Our team has already produced thousands of cells at our Customer Qualification Line (CQL), persistently working to enhance the performance of our batteries. We are steadfast in our ambition to become Europe's leading LFP battery provider", said Morrow CEO Lars Christian Bacher.

The CQL will shortly be in transit from South Korea to Norway and operational in Arendal during the second half of this year, the company stated.
