Sungrow to deliver 100MW/330MWh BESS for Penso Power’s energy storage project in the UK

Leading solar PV and energy storage system provider, Sungrow has entered into an agreement with Penso Power and BW ESS to deliver a battery energy storage system (BESS) for Penso Power's 100MW/330MWh energy storage project in Bramley, United Kingdom.

Scheduled to begin operations in 2024, the Bramley project is a key project in Penso Power's portfolio which is expected to play an important role in strengthening UK energy security and providing resiliency to the system. The Bramley facility will support the balancing of the grid, providing ancillary services, and wholesale energy trading.

"This project signifies another momentous milestone for Sungrow as we continue the journey to provide cutting-edge energy solutions to the UK market," said Dr. James Li, Director of ESS Europe, Sungrow.

"Our collaboration with Penso Power and BW ESS exemplifies our commitment to advancing clean and reliable energy storage solutions that will transform the energy landscape of the UK."

As part of the partnership, Sungrow will debut its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage system. The PowerTitan 2.0 combines the 2.5MW Power Conversion System and 5MWh battery into a single 20-ft container.

"The pioneering technology not only enhances efficiency and safety but also significantly reduces both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) costs," Sungrow stated in an official release.

Penso Power and BW ESS announced a joint venture agreement in October 2021 which would have BW commit capital to fund the build-out of Penso Power's project pipeline with Sungrow as a preferred supplier. Bramley is the first scheme to be built by the Penso Power/BW ESS joint venture.

Penso Power and Sungrow have previously partnered for the 100MW Mintey BESS in 2019. The two companies are expected to collaborate further on their global project pipeline including in Australia and Italy.
