In 25 cities across the Chinese mainland, Tesla has launched 32 supercharging stations with a cumulative number of 120 chargers last month. With this, the automaker has opened more than 1,200 supercharging stations in the country, with over 8,700 chargers, for its customers so far.
According to Chinese news portal CnEVPost, the new batch of charging network includes 28 V3 supercharging stations and 4 V2 supercharging stations in cities including Harbin, Tianjin, Chongqing, Chengdu, Foshan and Danzhou.
Tesla expects to bring 26 more cities in its network including Nanjing, Zhongshan, Qingdao and Nanning in July, as per the automaker's WeChat post.
Tesla has opened more than 35,000 superchargers across the globe, an official number cited by various media reports. On June 10, the company's 35,000th supercharger was installed at one of its Tesla service centers in Wuhan, Hubei province, in central China.
With over 8,700 chargers of the total 35,000 located in China, the numbers clearly show that China is becoming a significant market for Tesla, both in terms of electric car production and consumer sales. At Giga Shanghai, Tesla manufactures Model 3 and Model Y electric cars for both domestic and international markets.
In the first half of 2022, Tesla has exported 97,182 electric cars from China, which accounts for about 48 percent of the total new energy vehicle (NEV) exports from the country, as reported by CnEVPost.
The automaker has sold about 197,575 vehicles in the Chinese market during the same period.
