From the Editor: Leading the Change

Ashok Thakur, Editor-in-Chief, ETN.
'Change is inevitable. Hope is consistent.'

Global leaders of clean tech bear a responsibility that extends beyond the development of innovative solutions – that of leading the change towards a cleaner, more sustainable world. This leadership necessitates a deliberate and strategic approach. It calls for a keen eye on market dynamics, the ability to take calculated steps, and the readiness to pivot when necessary. We commend those individuals and organizations that have shouldered this responsibility and have spearheaded progress in the clean tech sector.

Governments have also entered the fray, aligning their efforts with the urgent climate change agenda. They have provided support, financial backing, subsidies, and incentives to stimulate the growth of clean technology. They have set ambitious emission-reduction targets and climate commitments. However, it is now imperative for them to walk the talk. The path ahead may be challenging, but it is a path that demands wholehearted commitment, all guns blazing.

Collaboration is key to translating ideas into tangible projects. It necessitates stepping out of the siloed thinking and walking into the vibrant park of collaboration. It is time for all stakeholders, from entrepreneurs to policymakers, to embrace a culture of cooperation.

Dialogue emerges as a critical instrument in the toolkit of change-makers. When diverse minds come together, they bring great ideas and strategies to the table. These insights, once shared and executed on a global scale, can revolutionize the clean tech landscape.

To achieve global environmental goals, it is imperative to bridge the gap between developed and developing nations. Every nation must contribute to making cheap, clean, and sustainable energy universally accessible. No nation should be left behind in this collective endeavor.

The recent G20 summit laid the foundation for progress by outlining the green development pact 'to accelerate the steps needed to tackle the challenges of environment and climate change'. This pact commits every participating nation to work towards tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030. Such global sessions, involving nations from around the world, are the need of the hour. They symbolize our collective commitment towards the cause.

The upcoming COP28 will be the next big gathering of nations highlighting the cause of climate change and focusing on an agenda that involves governments 'to drive global transformation towards a low-emission and climate-resilient world, fostering ambitious climate action and facilitating implementation, including related support'. The involved nations will deliberate on fostering ambitious climate action and facilitating its implementation.

'Net Zero' is not a mere goal; it is a responsibility that endures beyond achievement. Sustainability is the key. It necessitates continuous efforts, innovation, and adaptation to ensure a lasting impact on our planet.

Change is the driving force of an undeniable reality, and the transition in the offing is a shared responsibility. Every individual, or 'earthizen,' plays a crucial role in this transformative journey. Together, as a global community, we possess the united power to make a difference.

It is a difficult task; for clean tech companies and their heads, researchers and scientists, producers and providers, and even the end-users; to act on a future vision amidst the present challenges, and hope that it works out well.

In this issue, join us in celebrating the visionaries of a green world; making way for a sustainable and resilient future, and leading the change.
