Jindal India to set up 1 GWh battery pack assembly line for BESS by 2025
Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE) has announced its foray into the battery energy storage systems (BESS) business in India to support the country's emerging demand for energy storage solutions and its aspirations to be a leading player in clean energy transition.
Showcasing its upcoming plans at the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST 2024) held at Gandhinagar, the company said that the BESS business will be supported through a technological partnership with a leading global technology provider.
Punit Gupta, Director at Jindal India Renewable Energy commented on the new venture, "Our investment in battery energy storage systems not only broadens our portfolio but also enhances grid stability and promotes the deeper integration of renewable energy sources".
According to the company, the plan is to establish a 1 GWh battery pack assembly line using imported LFP chemistry cells for BESS manufacturing by 2025, which will be expanded into battery cell manufacturing with a targeted capacity of 5 GWh by 2027.
Jindal India claims that the battery initiative complements its ambitious goal of generating 5 GW of renewable energy by 2027, thereby supporting India's ambitious target of 500 GW by 2030. Part of BC Jindal Group, the company has also vowed to manufacture solar PV cells and modules to tap the local demand for solar systems.
