Tata Steel SEZ, Hygenco ink MoU for green hydrogen and green ammonia projects

Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Ltd (part of the Tata Steel Group) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with green hydrogen and green ammonia solutions provider, Hygenco to establish a green hydrogen and green ammonia project at TSSEZL's Gopalpur Industrial Park in Odisha.

As part of the newly forged deal, Hygenco will establish a large-scale green ammonia project in Gopalpur, Odisha that will produce 1 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia in different phases.

"The collaboration builds upon the approval received in February 2024 from the High-Level Clearance Authority of the esteemed Chief Minister's Office, Odisha" Hygenco stated in a social media post.

"It also demonstrates Hygenco's unwavering dedication to advance the sphere of sustainable energy.

The initial phase of the project is expected to be commissioned by December 2026.

Odisha approves three green hydrogen projects entailing investment of ₹46,000 crore -  

The state government of Odisha has green-lighted three hydrogen projects to promote the green hydrogen and green ammonia sector in the state, as part of an industrial push that saw approvals granted to 12 industrial projects in all. The projects have a cumulative investment of ₹85,000 crore, and the hydrogen projects account for slightly more than half that amount. The projects were cleared by the state's High Level Clearance Authority, headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
