US-based battery storage developer Spearmint Energy has entered into an agreement with Sungrow USA Corporation to deploy more than 1 GWh of additional energy storage capacity at the former's energy storage projects in Texas through 2025.

The company is planning to expand its expand its battery storage assets in the American state at present, following the commissioning of its first 150 MW/ 300 MWh 'Revolution' BESS project located at Crane in Western Texas early this year.

The 'Revolution' BESS utilized Sungrow's 'PowerTitan' Series of battery storage system, featuring 134 battery containers consisting of 6,432 battery modules. The latest pact for over 1 GWh of BESS will employ Sungrow's improved 'PowerTitan 2.0' energy storage system.

The system includes an easily scalable design and enhanced fire suppression features, including advanced liquid-cooling technology, according to the partners. The system also maintains top performance in harsh environments – including high-humidity areas, dusty deserts, or high elevations – and reduces auxiliary power consumption, they add.

"Spearmint Energy has quickly become a leader in BESS, and we are excited to deepen our partnership with a market player of its caliber. Like Sungrow, Spearmint fundamentally believes in the power of cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions to enhance grid stability. We are pleased to have our products support Spearmint's projects," said Martial Yu, Head of Service at Sungrow.

Peter Rood, Chief Development Officer of Spearmint, commented on the development, "Spearmint's latest projects will leverage Sungrow's integrated platform and allow us to quickly deploy new storage capacity to meet the growing need for the reliable, low-cost energy that powers the Texas economy while creating new jobs and additional tax revenue for local communities".

As of Q2 2024, Spearmint Energy has more than 20 battery energy storage projects in hands, totaling over 10 GWh of capacity, under development in 10+ states across 4 U.S. regions.
