Tata, Cummins set up TCPL Green Energy Solutions for zero-emission mobility techs
Cummins Inc. and Tata Motors Limited (TML) have signed a definitive agreement to manufacture a range of low- to zero-emissions technology products in India over the next few years. The two companies already have a 30-year partnership through their joint venture Tata Cummins Private limited (TCPL) in India established back in 1993.
The latest agreement strengthens their relationship towards an MoU signed between the two organizations in November 2022 to collaborate on the design and development of low- and zero-emissions propulsion technology solutions for commercial vehicles in India.
As a part of this agreement, the companies have set up a new business entity called 'TCPL Green Energy Solutions Private Limited' (GES) as a wholly-owned subsidiary under the existing joint venture. The new entity will focus on the development and manufacturing of sustainable technology products that will include hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines, fuel delivery systems, and battery electric powertrains and fuel cell electric systems through the Accelera by Cummins brand.

Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, commented on the development, "Tata Motors is leading the global megatrend of green, smart, and safe mobility in India. The low- to zero-emissions technologies developed by TCPL GES will be integrated into both on-highway and off-highway applications for domestic and international markets. This agreement will play a pivotal role in developing sustainable powertrain solutions that will help in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and supporting India's net-zero ambitions, the partners claim.
Expressing his delight on India being one of the first markets to receive Cummins' Hydrogen engines, Ashwath Ram, Managing Director, Cummins Group in India shared his views, "I am thrilled about the collaboration between Cummins and Tata Motors, which will provide a significant boost to India's Green Hydrogen Mission, electrification and net zero goals. The Cummins B6.7H hydrogen engine was exhibited by Tata Motors in one of its concept truck at the Auto Expo - Motor Show 2023 as well. Derived from Cummins fuel-agnostic platform, the engine is designed to be compatible with same transmissions, drivelines, and cooling packages that are currently used in diesel engines, thereby promising the trucking industry a seamless and affordable transition to clean fuel.
